The "Memphis Belle" is most notable for being the first to survive its tour of duty over Europe. These bombers were often damaged or lost as a result of intense resistance.

In May 2018, the restored version of the aircraft was finally donated to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio, where it is on display to the public.
